Johnnie Kamugisha is recognized by many as the top birding guide in Uganda. He studied Tourism and Travel Agency Management in the United Kingdom. With 23 years of experience in guiding, travel planning, and management, he is indeed one of the top bird guides in the country.
Johnnie loved nature since childhood and traveled with his Dad during school holidays, which helped him to learn and master a lot about Uganda and learnt how to drive at a very young age because at 8 he would drive a truck (Lorry), and so you are safe in his hands.
He has served as a founder member and leader in many tourism bodies like the Uganda Safari Guides Association (USAGA), Uganda Bird Guides Club, and many more.
Johnnie is open-minded, creative, friendly, and a resourceful person with a sound and optimistic outlook on all things in life. He possesses an excellent ability to motivate others, coupled with the ability to communicate comfortably at all levels since he speaks 10 local languages, therefore ensuring an excellent working environment for all the people he works with, which creates an environment to perform at their best.
Johnnie has written an “Introduction to Butterflies of Uganda” book; Has written a 20-page practical book for new guides, another is in the pipeline, and is a trained trainer from South Africa and has trained several others in the same industry to build a firm base for the industry for more years to come.

Tayebwa Richard, born on November 10, 1981, in Kazo, is a passionate Ugandan tour guide and birding expert. He studied Hospitality and Tourism at Kenya Utalii College and began his career in 2007 at Ishasha Wilderness Camp. He later worked with Marasa Africa in Murchison Falls before becoming a freelance guide in 2013. Richard has led safaris across Uganda, sharing his deep knowledge of wildlife and nature. He is committed to conservation and connecting visitors to Uganda’s natural heritage.
